Natural & Hill Country Sri Lanka

The hill country of Sri Lanka offers a distinctive landscape different from the rest of the island. Verdant peaks tower in all directions, while lower slopes are blanketed in rich tea plantations. Stunning waterfalls tumble over precipices into valleys hemmed in by towering mountains. The cloud forest above is a sanctuary for a diversity of mountain birds, whose elusive songs continuously echo throughout the region.

The Hill Country of Sri Lanka is where the island slows down and nature moves to the forefront. With misty mountains, rolling tea plantations and cascading waterfalls, it’s a world apart from the frenetic cities and coastal towns. The area is cool, peaceful, and charming — a great getaway for lovers of fresh air and stunning vistas.

The Hill Country extends through places such as Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Ella and Haputale — each place its own enchanting world. Kandy – the cultural capital, with its sacred Temple of the Tooth Relic in a serene setting around a lake surrounded by forested hills. Winding roads take you up into tea country, where emerald-green estates and pretty villages welcome you with warm ( sometimes yes, boiling) cupfuls of Invigorating Ceylon tea
